THE BRIEF:

Modernize Interac, encourage people to use their debit cards, while doing better by the environment.

THE STRATEGY:

When people make purchases using their debit cards, they are offered the choice of declining a receipt, whereas you will always receive one when paying cash. Many receipts end up as litter, so the opportunity of tracking purchases online creates a distinct way to cut down on paper waste at no cost to the consumer.

THE IDEA:

Find a way to better quantify the amount of waste created by receipts, that can be more interactive.

THE STRATEGY:

To help promote payment methods like Flash, Interac's logo needs to better reflect the idea of paying with tap and chip.

THE IDEA:

The existing logo took advantage of a hand holding a card, and used its magnetic stripe to create the "i" of the logo. However, very few people still use their stripe as a payment method, and in some cases payment machines will reject it in favour of tap and chip. A new logo takes the same advantage of the hand holding its debit card, but creates the "i" using the thumb and chip of the card.
